ManU Manager David Moyes Reportedly To Be Sacked As Early As Tuesday

ManU Manager David Moyes "will be sacked" in the coming weeks, according to Ian Ladyman of the London DAILY MAIL. ManU owners the Glazer family has "finally lost patience with Moyes after a dismal season" that has seen ManU "slump to seventh in the table." The Glazers and ManU CEO Ed Woodward "were determined to show patience with Moyes but have recognised inescapable signs recently that performances were getting worse and that players had stopped trying for their manager." It is "understood that the plan now is to sack Moyes at the end of the season but the situation could now come to a head" in "the coming days" (DAILY MAIL, 4/21). In London, Ian Herbert reported the Glazer family "will be in Manchester next week to help oversee a managerial recruitment process" in which Borussia Dortmund coach Jürgen Klopp "is a front-runner." The Glazers "appear to have sanctioned the removal of Moyes as far back as the Champions League defeat at Olympiakos" on Feb. 25. The decision to get rid of Moyes "was discussed and possibly ratified at a recent ManU board meeting but there is a financial motive behind delaying removing him until now'' (INDEPENDENT, 4/21). In London, James Ducker wrote "if Moyes departs this week, Ryan Giggs, the player-coach, would probably be installed on an interim basis for the club's final four matches of the season, although it is unclear" if Giggs would be in the "running to get the job permanently." Former Netherlands, Bayern Munich, Barcelona and Dutch side Ajax coach Louis van Gaal "has been linked with the post" (LONDON TIMES, 4/21). In Manchester, James Robson reported ManU has "failed to offer assurances" over the future of Moyes "following reports he is set to be sacked." A club spokesperson said on Monday that the manager "had definitely not been dismissed yet, but refused to comment on speculation he will be sacked imminently" (MANCHESTER EVENING NEWS, 4/21).
