Argentine Sides Boca, River Confirm Friendlies In Chile, Consider Playing In Cancún

Argentine first division rivals Boca Juniors and River Plate have agreed to play a friendly in Chile in late May "as part of a series in which Chilean first division clubs Universidad de Chile and Unión Española will also participate," according to Yarroch & Del Río of CLARIN. Boca and River "are also in advanced talks to play a friendly in Cancún, Mexico" and there are plans "to also hold matches in the next few years in Madrid, Dubai and China." Since Rodoldo D'Onofrio became River's president in December, "the top execs from both clubs have held meetings to exchange ideas." Both River and Boca are expected to earn $700,000 from playing two friendlies apiece in Chile. The clubs have agreed to play each other in Santiago on May 29. In Cancún, the "tentative date for the clash between Boca and River is June 7." While in Cancún, both River and Boca could also play friendlies against Liga MX side Monterrey. If these "games are finalized," River and Boca could each earn an additional $700,000 (CLARIN, 4/12).
