Australia's Gungahlin Oval To Host Clubs From Four Different Sporting Codes

While Australia's four sporting codes are usually competing for players, corporate dollars and TV revenue, they are now "all co-existing in Gungahlin," according to Lee Gaskin of the CANBERRA TIMES. The Gungahlin Bulls (rugby league), the Gungahlin Eagles (rugby union), the Gungahlin Jets (Australian football) and Canberra City (soccer) "will all use" the new, A$12.5M ($11.5M) Gungahlin enclosed oval. The grandstand holds 1,150 people with 550 seats undercover. The oval "will only be used on match days, with each of the clubs training at their respective home grounds." The biggest challenge "will be maintaining the playing surface during the busy schedule, especially in the middle of winter" (CANBERRA TIMES, 4/7).
