Board Of Control For Cricket In India Plans Subsidy For IPL Franchises

The Board of Control for Cricket in India is planning to provide a "subsidy" to Indian Premier League team franchisees for the phase of the seventh season’s matches to be played in the , according to Digbijay Mishra of the Indian BUSINESS STANDARD. The subsidy "is being planned in the form of logistical expense, like hotel arrangements and stadium, which would be born by the BCCI." The rationale "was that the venue for the first phase of the cricketing extravaganza was a foreign country." A member who did not wish to be named said, “The board is planning to bear the cost of some logistical requirements. ... This will provide some relief to the team owners, as they have to bear the cost of holding Phase I in Dubai, Sharjah and Abu Dhabi." Teams "are free to set their own rates for stadium tickets and some team owners might choose to raise prices to make up for the loss of revenue" (BUSINESS STANDARD, 3/31). The PTI reported complying with the Supreme Court's order, the BCCI "has given marching orders to all the employees of India Cements or its associate companies who were also part of the Cricket Board." A BCCI source said, "All India Cements employees connected with the BCCI have been taken out of the Board as per the Supreme Court's order." The "notable faces among them" are Tamil Nadu Cricket Association secretary and a close aid of former BCCI President N. Srinivasan, Kashi Vishwanathan. Other India Cements employees "who have been removed from the BCCI till the Supreme Court's final orders" are India Team Logistics Manager M.A. Satheesh, IPL CFO Prasanna Kannan, TNCA Joint Secretary R.I. Palani and TNCA VP P.S. Raman (PTI, 3/31). The PTI also reported the BCCI "has decided not to send any replacements" for Satheesh, who has been recalled from his duties as Team India's logistics manager from the ongoing ICC World T20. India Team Media Manager R.N. Baba said, "It has been decided that BCCI will not be sending any replacement for the remainder of the ICC World T20. But yes, Satheesh is going back" (PTI, 3/31).
