Event Notes: FINA President Wants 2020 World Swimming Championships In Sochi

Int'l Swimming Federation President Julio Maglione said that Sochi "would be the ideal location for the 2020 world short course championships." Maglione said that "he couldn't think of another venue." There is "currently no 25m pool among the six coastal arenas" (R-SPORT, 3/27). ... Australian Football League side Collingwood "appears to be considering re-introducing dancers" at its matches. The Pies "are at pains to point out that the possible plan does not involve cheerleaders as such, but rather a street-style dance troupe of approximately six men and six women." The dancing, if the plan goes ahead, "would be part of pre-game entertainment" (THE AGE, 3/27). ... The LPGA Tour, China Golf Association and Int'l Management Group announced Wednesday that the Blue Bay LPGA "will be played in October on China's Hainan Island." IMG Golf "will operate the event" set for Oct. 23-26 at Jian Lake Blue Bay Golf Course. The $2M event will be the fourth stop on the LPGA Tour's six-tournament Asian Swing (AP, 3/26). ... The Bangladesh Cricket Board said that fans "are not being barred from flying the flags of foreign nations at stadiums during the World Twenty20." The BCB "reverted an earlier decision" banning local fans from flying flags of other nations after intervention by the Int'l Cricket Council (PAKISTAN TODAY, 3/27).
