International Cricket Council T20 World Cup To Bring In Big Bucks For Star India

The Int'l Cricket Council Twenty20 World Cup cricket tournament, which began on March 16 and saw the Super 10 league matches flag off with the - tie on Friday, will rake in close to Rs 380 crore ($62M) for the broadcaster, Star Sports, according to Urvi Malvania of the the Indian BUSINESS STANDARD. This "is a marked increase from the revenue of last year’s edition," of close to Rs 250 crore. The increase "is a result of an increase in advertising rates," of nearly 25%, and the increase in the number of matches played. The broadcaster charged an average Rs 3 lakh "for a 10-second spot in 2012 for the series." This time, advertisers have to pay Rs 3.75 lakh ($6,076) "for the same time." The rates for the final stages of the matches "will be raised depending on the teams that make it to the semi-finals and final." The broadcast sponsors on board "include Pernod Ricard, Hyundai Motors, Coca-Cola, Perfetti, State Bank of India and TVS Srichakra" tires (BUSINESS STANDARD, 3/21).
