On-Trial Paralympian Oscar Pistorius May Regain Blade Sponsorship If Acquitted

Ossur, the Icelandic company that manufactures the running blades used by Oscar Pistorius, said that it would "consider resuming ties with the paralympian if he is acquitted of charges that he murdered his girlfriend," according to Omar R. Valdimarsson of BLOOMBERG. Ossur CFO Sveinn Solvason said, "Everything is possible in that regard. I don’t want to rule anything out. We just have to see how these things develop." The murder charges "have wrecked Pistorius’s career," and Ossur said on Friday that it had joined Nike and Oakley "in dropping sponsorship deals with him." Ossur’s main office in the Icelandic capital "has also removed all images of Pistorius that once adorned its walls." Solvason said though Ossur sponsors a “large group” of athletes with disabilities, Pistorius “had a different status.” Solvason: “He was a world famous athlete and we perhaps did more for him than for others” (BLOOMBERG, 3/17).
