German Football Federation, Football League Want Greater Share Of World Cup Revenue

The German Football Federation (DFB) and German Football League (DFL) "have called for a bigger share of FIFA's World Cup revenue," according to the SID. DFL President Reinhard Rauball said, "There certainly is room for growth considering the further increasing revenue potential of World Cups. After all, the club players form the foundation of great World Cup tournaments and therefore secure the economic success." Rauball recently mentioned a sum of €100M ($139M) for clubs. FIFA will pay €260M ($360M) in bonuses to the 32 qualified teams for the World Cup in Brazil. In addition, it will pay €50M ($69M) to clubs that release players for the tournament and €75M ($104M) for players' insurances. DFB General Secretary Helmut Sandrock said, "No doubt, national federations have to receive a greater share from the World Cup. In particular because FIFA's income is primarily boosted by the 13 European federations" (SID, 3/11).
