Queensland, Australia "could host a professional American football game," with Premier Campbell Newman "inviting NFL chiefs to tour facilities" in the Australian state, according to the AAP. Newman said that the NFL "bigwigs will visit Brisbane within the next month to tour Suncorp Stadium, which would be the most likely venue for an NFL match." Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks, which drafted Brisbane's Jesse "Tha Monstar" Williams, "would be the premier's team of choice." Newman said that any agreement with the NFL "would not only feature one-off games." He said, "They're not talking about coming to Australia, they're talking about a long-term plan" (AAP, 3/11). The NFL told SBD Global that it currently has no plans to play games in Australia. NFL spokesperson Michael Signora said, "While we recognize we have a growing number of passionate fans in Australia, we have no plans to play games there at this time." He added, "The focus with regard to international NFL games is in the U.K., where, this season, we will play three games for the first time" (HJ Mai, SBD Global).
