NRL Cronulla Sharks Spent A$1.5M Responding To ASADA Doping Scandal

National Rugby League side Cronulla Sharks released its '13 annual report that "exposes the price" of dealing with its doping scandal so far, according to Josh Massoud of the Sydney DAILY TELEGRAPH. The report reveals that A$1.5M ($1.3M) "was exacted" from responding to both the Australian Sports Anti-Doping Authority and the NRL, which also issued a salary cap breach midway through last year. Failing to correctly document third party and marquee deals cost Cronulla a A$150,000 fine, meaning the net cost of dealing with the ASADA fall-out alone amounted to $1.4M (DAILY TELEGRAPH, 3/6). In Sydney, Michael Carayannis reported the Sharks are "yet to decide if they will appeal" the A$1M fine handed down by the NRL, of which A$400,000 "is suspended." Cronulla CEO Steve Noyce: "Before you can make any decision you need all the information" (SYDNEY MORNING HERALD, 3/6).
