League Notes: NBA Commissioner Says Europe Not Currently Prepared For An NBA Team

NBA Commissioner Adam Silver said at MIT's Sloan Sports Analytics Conference in Boston that the league is "not yet ready to have a team based in Europe." Silver: "I do not believe that Europe is prepared for an NBA team right now. It lacks the structure. A division of teams in Europe could work, but it does not currently meet the necessary requirements and this would also need the approval of the players" (AS, 3/2). ... F1 bosses "have decided against extending the double points scheme to the final three races of the season." A proposal by F1 CEO Bernie Ecclestone "to extend the scheme from the last race of the season was discussed at a strategy group meeting" (BBC, 2/28). ... Board of Control for Cricket in India VP Rajiv Shukla said that the "suspense over the venues" for this year's Indian Premier League "is all set to end on March 5" when the BCCI "will take a decision on the matter in a meeting." The Home Ministry "has already made it clear that in view of the Lok Sabha elections, providing security for IPL matches will not be possible for it." The Union Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs said that therefore, the BCCI "has options of holding the matches in South Africa, Bangladesh and United Arab Emirates" (PTI, 3/2).
