Franchise Notes: Real Zaragoza Owner Could Face Legal Action Over Logistics Platform

A Spanish court has given Spanish second division side Real Zaragoza Owner Agapito Iglesias and two officials 24 hours to make a payment of €18.85M ($25.76M) "for their responsibility in exceeding the budget" in the construction of the Zaragoza Logistics Platform (PLAZA). The judge said "that legal action will be taken if the payment is not completed." The "construction project's initial budget" was €14M, but cost more than €32M (EFE, 2/26). ... A "lack of local players and increasing financial costs are the reasons" behind Australian Ice Hockey League side Canberra Knights, "one of Canberra's longest-running national sporting teams," folding after 33 years. Players trained on Tuesday night before "being told on Wednesday, either by email or through the team's Facebook page, that the Knights had withdrawn from the AIHL" (CANBERRA TIMES, 2/26).
