Atlético Players Test Out Improved Playing Surface Following Milan's €20M Investment

Milan's San Siro stadium's "playing surface is not what it used to be," according to Luiz Aznar of MARCA. Last season, a complaint by Barcelona's Dani Alves "defined it as a 'potato field.'" Stadium execs "made the decision to modernise the facilities and improve the field of play," and now the "current San Siro pitch is now 30% artificial." More than €20M was "invested in the pieces of artificial grass which are mixed with natural grass, in order to obtain an excellent surface." Atlético Madrid defeated AC Milan 1-0 in a Champions League clash on Wednesday, a day after Atlético tested the surface in a practice session "and it is believed there is hardly any difference in comparison with the pitch" at Atlético's Vicente Calderón (MARCA, 2/19).
