ARD Scores High Ratings With Olympics, Football Broadcasts On Tuesday

German public broadcaster ARD "recorded consistently high ratings for its program on Tuesday, which was full of sports," according to Manuel Weis of QUOTENMETER. In primetime, ARD aired the first DFB-Pokal (German Cup) quarterfinal match between Eintracht Frankfurt and Borussia Dortmund. The game, which started at 8:45pm, attracted an average of 7.82 million viewers and obtained a 25.3% market share. In the target demographic 14-49, Dortmund's 1-0 win was watched by an average of 2.51 million viewers and had a 21.2% share. During the day, ARD "received top ratings with its Olympics broadcasts." The highlight of the day was the women's luge event in which Germany won a Gold Medal. The competition's live broadcast, which started at 3:25pm, attracted 6.36 million viewers and had a 33.8% market share. In the target demographic, the event obtained a 22% share. However, the highest-rated event during the afternoon was once again biathlon. The women's 10km pursuit race obtained a market share of 38.2% as 5.57 million viewers tuned in. In the target demographic, the broadcast had a 24.1% market share. The women's ski jumping competition, which also produced a Gold Medal for Germany, attracted 6.54 million viewers and had a 22.6% share. In the target demographic, the event obtained a 16.8% share (QUOTENMETER, 2/12).
