German Interior Minister Says Olympic Bid Makes Sense Again In More Than 10 Years

German Interior Minister Thomas de Maizière "has called for a thorough evaluation after Munich's two failed bid attempts to host the Olympic Winter Games," according to the SID. A renewed German Olympic bid "will make sense again in more than 10 years." De Maizière said, "I think an appropriate time for a new bid would be at the end of the next decade." It would mean that if awarded, Olympic Games "would take place in Germany in the 2030s at the earliest." De Maizière also said that Germany "should go all-in and attempt to bid on a summer Olympics." He added that it cannot be the case that a country "of our size, with our democratic tradition, our organizational talent and the capability of being a great host" it is unable to put together a bid that has the public's support (SID, 2/10).
