Italian Media Company Mediaset Secures Champions League TV Rights For $955M

Italian media company Mediaset "has secured the broadcast rights for the Champions League until '18," according to the SID. Mediaset, which is owned by AC Milan Owner Silvio Berlusconi, "has purchased the broadcast rights for the Champions League from '15-18." The company is reportedly paying €700M ($955M) to air the competition on its pay-TV channel Premium. Due to the high price tag, it is expected that Mediaset "will open itself up to foreign partners." The media company is already paying €250M ($183M) annually to show Serie A. Pay-TV channel Premium has 2.2 million subscribers in Italy (SID, 2/10).
