Spanish Football Coaches Draw Up Draft For New Agreement With Spanish Football League

The National Association of Spanish Football Coaches (ANEF) announced on Monday that it is working on a draft of a collective bargaining agreement that it will soon negotiate with the Spanish Football League (LFP) to "regulate ANEF's labor situation and make it equal to those throughout Europe," according to the EFE. ANEF President Xavi Juliá said, "It's very necessary for the ANEF to begin to regulate the profession in the same way that this has already been done in Europe, or in Spain for coaches of other sports. The signing of an agreement will make us equal to other European countries, put a value on being a national football coach and strengthen our coaches' labor options on the int'l level." The ANEF was founded more than 10 years ago and represents nearly 700 coaches. Juliá "pointed out that the ANEF is the only coaching body where members have to pay a federation 3% of their contracts to obtain professional licensing." He said, "Few people know this, and we realized it at a coaching summit in October. This seems excessive to us and inexplicable to our European counterparts" (EFE, 2/10).
