Football Federation Australia Says Sideline Security A Club Matter

Football Federation Australia said that "beleaguered Sydney FC coach Frank Farina should approach his club if he wants dugouts installed to enhance security," according to Adrian Warren of the SYDNEY MORNING HERALD. Farina "made the call for sideline dugouts after having contents of a cup tossed on him during Saturday night's tumultuous 3-0 loss to Adelaide at Allianz Stadium." Farina said that "he didn't feel his safety was compromised by the incident" -- for which a man was ejected from the venue -- and "made jokes about the offender having to buy another drink." However, he made it clear there "could be better protection for players, coaches and support staff, who sit on uncovered chairs on the sideline at Allianz Stadium" (SMH, 2/10).
