League Notes: Pakistan Participation In Asia Cup Not Guaranteed

The Asian Cricket Council may have decided to hold the Asia Cup in strife-torn Bangladesh, "but Pakistan is refusing to commit itself to participation in the continental tournament." The Pakistan Cricket Board said that "its participation is subject to many a condition, effectively stating that there is no guarantee that it will take part." Primarily, "the PCB wants to assess the situation" before giving the go-ahead (MUMBAI MIRROR, 1/6). ... The Int'l Triathlon Union is moving its heaquarters from Vancouver to Lausanne, Switzerland "as part of efforts to build closer ties" with the IOC. The change will be made official Tuesday "when its offices reopen for the year." The ITU's outposts in Vancouver and Madrid "will remain open, and there are no plans for any staff relocations at the moment" (220 TRIATHLON, 1/6). ... The fate of former Indian Premier League Commissioner Lalit Modi, who contested the Rajasthan Cricket Association polls, is likely to be known on Jan. 17 with the Supreme Court saying that "it would open the sealed enveloped containing the results on that day." A bench headed by Justice A. R. Dave "also agreed to hear the objections" raised by the Board of Control for Cricket in India over Modi contesting the Dec. 19 election before declaring the results if Modi comes out as a winner (PTI, 1/6). The "prolonged standoff" between badminton player Jwala Gutta and the Badminton Association of India has "ended with the national federation dropping all the charges" against Gutta. She can now "play freely in the Victor Korea Open Super Series starting in Seoul" on Tuesday (TIMES OF INDIA, 1/4).
