Helmet Cam Of Critically Injured Michael Schumacher Handed Over To Investigators

SABINE KEHM, the manager of seven-time F1 world champion MICHAEL SCHUMACHER, said that Schumacher's family "has provided French investigators with the helmet camera that the Formula One great wore during a skiing incident in which he was critically injured," according to the AP. Kehm wrote in an email Saturday that Schumacher's condition "remains critical but stable." She also sought "to play down media speculation about Schumacher's health, and requested respect for the family's privacy" (AP, 1/4). BLOOMBERG's Karin Matussek wrote Kehm said that media reports "saying investigators took the device against his family’s wishes are wrong." She added that "there aren't any press conferences on his status scheduled before at least Jan. 6." Kehm: "Any information regarding Michael’s health not coming from the doctors treating him or from his management must be treated as invalid and pure speculation" (BLOOMBERG, 1/4). The PA reported Schumacher "was initially conscious after the accident, which happened on a family holiday, but deteriorated into a critical condition." Neurosurgeons "have operated twice to remove blood clots on his brain and reduce swelling." Schumacher turned 45 on Friday, with his family saying they were "overwhelmed" by the support of fans who gathered at the Grenoble hospital to mark the occasion" (PA, 1/4). SPORT1 reported former Finnish Fl driver MIKA HÄKKINEN "has written an open letter to his former rival Schumacher." In the letter he wrote, "Just this once don't try to beat the clock. You have to fight hard again, just like we both used to do on the track." He added, "You don't have to post your best time in this race. You have to take all the time you need" (SPORT1, 1/5).
