El Salvador national football coach ALBERTO CASTILLO on Wednesday announced that "his contract has ended and that he will now seek another opportunity." Castillo had coached El Salvador's national team since December '12 (EFE, 12/19). ... Spanish second division side Girona has hired JAVI LÓPEZ to replace RICARDO RODRÍGUEZ as its new coach (AS, 12/18). ... Former League Championship side Blackburn Manager HENNING BERG "is back in football after Polish club Legia Warsaw revealed the Norwegian will be their new manager" (PA, 12/19). ... Italy's National Olympic Committee on Wednesday appointed Carabinieri paramilitary police General ENRICO CATALDI "as the country's general sport prosecutor." The announcement "came at the close of a meeting to reform the sport-related justice system" (ANSA, 12/18). ... Giro d’Italia organizer RCS Sport has appointed Italian Track and Field Federation General Secretary PAOLO BELLINO as GM. Bellino "arrives from the Italian Track and Field Federation" and will take up his new role from Jan. 13. Bellino’s appointment follows the dismissal of Giro d’Italia Dir MICHELE ACQUARONE earlier this month. Bellino is a former int'l 400M runner (CYCLING NEWS, 12/19). ... Hungary named ATILLA PINTER as its national football coach on Thursday "in a surprise move after searching for, and then deciding against an overseas appointment." Hungarian FA President SANDOR CSANYI said, "We talked and looked at at least 20 foreign coaches, but after all we thought a native coach would be better" (REUTERS, 12/19).
