Sport1 Secures Sublicense For Olympic Hockey Tournament, Adds Turkish SüperLig To Program

German sports network Sport1 "has secured live broadcast rights for the Olympic hockey tournament at the 2014 Sochi Winter Games," according to DIGITALFERNSEHEN. Sport1 "has reached an agreement with SportA, which is the sports rights agency of German public broadcasters ARD and ZDF, for the sublicensing of men's and women's Olympic hockey rights." Sport1 "is expected to show about 25 games on free-to-air TV and via livestream on Sport1.de in February." Sport1 Managing Dir Olaf Schröder said, "We are the Olympics -- for the first time, we will broadcast an Olympic competition on our platforms. The Winter Games are together with the FIFA World Cup the highlights of the upcoming sports year." Sport1 "will show all preliminary round games of Germany's women's national team." The men's national team "failed to qualify for the Olympics" (DIGITALFERNSEHEN, 12/19).

TURKEY TIME: QUOTENMETER's Manuel Weis reported Sport1 "will show highlights of the Turkish top flight football league, SüperLig, starting in January." Sport1 "reached an agreement with agency MP & Silva for SüperLig highlight rights." The channel is expected to broadcast highlights from the previous SüperLig matchweek in a "45-minute show on Tuesday nights starting on Jan. 28" (QUOTENMETER, 12/17).
