Football Federation Australia Yet To Decide Host City For Socceroos' Farewell Game

Football Federation Australia said that "it has yet to decide which city will host the Socceroos' traditional farewell game ahead of their departure for the World Cup in Brazil," according to Ray Gatt of THE AUSTRALIAN. The head body "came under much criticism on social media and was accused of being Sydney-centric following reports last Sunday that the city will be handed the match against a yet-to-be-named opponent next May." A spokesperson for FFA "defended its scheduling process and pointed out that in the World Cup cycle over the past three years, the Socceroos had played in Melbourne, Brisbane, Canberra, Adelaide and Sydney." The spokesperson said, "The World Cup farewell game is one of those occasions when we need to allow as many fans as possible to see the team off. That means looking at big venues in big cities, but at this point no decision has been made about the farewell game in May" (THE AUSTRALIAN, 12/11).
