The Int'l Cricket Council announced that former Pakistan captain WAQAR YOUNIS and former Australia wicketkeeper ADAM GILCHRIST will be inducted into the ICC Hall of Fame later this week. Younis will be honored during the first Twenty20 int'l between Pakistan and Sri Lanka at the Dubai Int'l Cricket Stadium in Dubai Wednesday. On Friday, Gilchrist will be honored during the tea interval of the third Ashes Test match between Australia and England at the WACA (ICC). ... French swimmer AMAURY LEVEAUX has announced his retirement from the sport at the age of 28. Leveaux said, "I have all the medals. I have gone through everything in swimming. I took time before making this decision" (EFE, 12/9). ... La Liga Sevilla President JOSE MARIA DEL NIDO has resigned "after losing an appeal last week against a seven-year prison term for misappropriation of public funds" (REUTERS, 12/9). ... Korea Baseball Organization Samsung Lions Manager RYU JOONG-IL "will be with the club for three more seasons after signing a record-breaking contract." The Korea Baseball Organization club said that they re-signed Ryu for three more years, with an annual salary of 500M won ($473,000) and a signing bonus of 600M ($570,000) won. Ryu, 50, will be the first KBO manager to make 500M won per season (KOREA HERALD, 12/9). ... British horseracing commercial group The Jockey Club has elected three honorary members and six ordinary members. The honorary members are SHEIKH HAMAD BIN ABDULLA BIN KHALIFA AL THANI, SHEIKH FAHAD BIN ABDULLA BIN KHALIFA AL THANI, EDWARD GILLESPIE. National Rugby League Canberra Raiders announced physician DR. PETER FRICKER "will review their high performance and medical departments" as the RICKY STUART era begins.
