FIFA Distributes Nearly 900K World Cup Tickets To Fans From 188 Countries

A total of 889,305 tickets for the 2014 FIFA World Cup were allocated to people from 188 countries during the random selection draw for the first phase of ticket sales. Brazilian residents purchased 71.5% of the tickets, while 28.5% went to fans from other countries. Out of all tickets made available for sale, in compliance with the General World Cup Bill, FIFA offered a total of 342,740 tickets in category 4 to fans in Brazil, with priority given to students, individuals older than 60 and participants in the federal social welfare program. The next sales window will start again exclusively via FIFA.com on Nov. 11 at noon (FIFA). BLOOMBERG's Tariq Panja reported Brazilian, American and British football fans "bought the most seats in the first phase of ticketing for next year's World Cup." U.S. residents obtained 66,646, "more than those in any other country outside of Brazil." The "next largest allocation went to England, where fans will receive 22,257 tickets." The remaining six World Cup participants will "be known following final playoff matches later this month" (BLOOMBERG, 11/5).
