League Notes: Serie A Napoli President Calls For European Super League

Serie A Napoli President Aurelio De Laurentiis "believes teams could earn up to five times more from the continental competition and is eager to see the best teams clash on a weekly basis." He "has advocated the idea of forming a lucrative European Super League featuring the biggest teams from across the continent." De Laurentiis: "I want to reduce the league to 16 teams and to create a large European Cup that would bring together the five biggest teams from the five best European leagues." He added, "It would be crazy, the end of the world! This competition could generate €5 billion ($6.9B) -- a revolution. Everyone seems happy to earn €40M ($55M) per season in the Champions League. I’m not. I want to earn €150M ($207M) or even €200M ($276M)" (GOAL, 10/24). ... The Canberra Cavalry are ''disappointed'' the Australian Baseball League "has radically changed its import rules and believe it sends 'mixed messages' about whether the league is for developing Australian" or U.S. talent (CANBERRA TIMES, 10/26). ... Meydan Group’s "vision to bring a world–class race meeting to China has been postponed due to a lack of quarantine protocol." The race meeting "was set to be staged at Chengdu in Sichuan province, and it was understood to be taking place on Saturday" (THE NATIONAL, 10/24). ... Compensation picks for lost free agents "would all be taken at the end of round picks and not tied to clubs' draft picks under one popular proposal to change free agency." The Australian Football League Players Association "will reiterate its view that compensation is unnecessary and should be scrapped when the AFL holds the two-year review of the introduction of free agency" (THE AGE, 10/28). ... Qatar Motor and Motorcycling Federation (QMMF) President Nasser Khalifa al-Attiyah "has lashed out at Mohamed bin Sulayem," president of the UAE Automobile and Touring Club and vice-president of the FIA, "for attempting to remove the Qatari and Kuwaiti legs of the Middle East Rally Championship and replace them with a new round in Iran" (GULF TIMES, 10/25).
