ManU Issues Apology Following Email Containing Swastika-Style Club Logo

ManU have issued "an unreserved apology after an email sent out by the club published a Swastika-style club logo," according to Jack De Menezes of the London INDEPENDENT. ManU Head of Media David Sternberg admitted that "an investigation is underway." The logo "appeared on the United Uncovered email along with the heading of ‘New Order’ -- a term that was used by Adolf Hitler in his call for a European New Order in 1941 -- with the logos accompanied by pictures of the club’s younger players." Sternberg "took to Twitter to respond to the complaints." Sternberg tweeted, "The creative is completely inappropriate; we apologise unreservedly and are taking appropriate internal action" (INDEPENDENT, 10/26). In London, Mark Ogden reported that the Swastika-style image, made up of the letters M, U, F and C, "prompted outrage among supporters." ManU has insisted that the "New Order headline was in relation to the Manchester band of the same name and used to highlight the club's emerging youngsters, but fans have now been contacted via email to reaffirm United's apology" (TELEGRAPH, 10/26).
