Event Notes: German Tennis Federation Trying To Move Davis Cup Match To Larger City

The German Tennis Federation (DTB) "is trying to move the Davis Cup matchup against Spain to a larger city at the end of January." DTP President Karl Altenburg said, "The negotiations about a host city are currently underway. It looks like it's going to be a large city." Germany hosted its recent Davis Cup games in Ulm and Bamberg, among other cities (SPORT1, 10/22). ... Dusseldorf, Germany's ISS Dome "will host the Liebherr 2014 Table Tennis Men's World Cup from Oct. 24-26, 2014" (LOKAL KOMPASS, 10/23). ... Scotland "will travel to Molde to take on Norway" in an int'l friendly in November. The Norwegian Football Federation confirmed that the match between the two sides will take place on Nov. 19 (SCOTSMAN, 10/23). ... Herald Corp. "will stage a professional golf tournament next week in a bid to boost the development of men’s golf in Korea." The Herald-KYJ Tour Championship "will be held on the Hill and Ocean Courses in Lotte Skyhill Jeju Country Club in Seogwipo, Jeju Province," from Tuesday until Nov. 1 (KOREA HERALD, 10/23). ... That there will be "a mad rush for Sachin Tendulkar's swansong was a given, but the Mumbai Cricket Association, the hosts for the marquee Test, is bracing itself to handle a huge demand for tickets from India and abroad." MCA President Sharad Pawar, while announcing the plans for Sachin's farewell Test, said that "the association was inundated by calls from" the U.S., the U.K. and other cricket-playing nations asking for tickets (TIMES OF INDIA, 10/23).
