San Marino football coach GIAMPAOLO MAZZA has "reportedly quit after 15 years in charge of the national side ranked joint bottom of FIFA's world rankings table." Mazza oversaw a "total of 85 matches, collecting just one win." Mazza bowed out with an "8-0 home defeat by Ukraine on Tuesday, having been Europe's longest-serving national team coach" (London DAILY MIRROR). ... Rajya Sabha MP KANWAR DEEP SINGH was "unanimously elected as the president of the Indian Hockey Federation" for a four-year term in the Annual General Meeting held on Monday. Singh, who was elected unopposed in the meeting, will head the body from '13-17 (PTI, 10/21). ... Arabian Gulf League side Al Wasl Manager LAURENT BANIDE "became the latest casualty" of the league's "managerial merry-go-round" on Sunday night, after less than five months in charge. The club "issued a statement confirming the Frenchman’s departure," appointing SALEEM ABDEL RAHMAN as the interim manager until a new coach is hired. Banide had signed a two-year deal at Zabeel Stadium in May (THE NATIONAL, 10/21). ... Serie A club Catania has sacked coach ROLANDO MARAN to bring in GIGI DE CANIO. Maran took over last season and took Catania to a "record-breaking campaign, notching up 48 points" in '11-12 and "narrowly missing out on European qualification" (FOOTBALL ITALIA, 10/20).
