Barcelona Mayor To Consult Politicians Before Deciding On City's Possible 2022 Olympic Bid

Barcelona Mayor Xavier Trias on Monday requested that Spanish political parties the "Convergencia i Union" (CiU), Party of Catalan Socialists (PSC), Republican Left of Catalonia (ERC) and the People's Party (PPC) "decide within three days whether they will give a 'yes' to Barcelona's possible 2022 Winter Olympic candidacy," according to MUNDO DEPORTIVO. Trias said, "I will not lead a 2022 Olympic candidacy, we will not take this step as a government, if we do not have the support of the PSC, CiU, PP and ERC. So we will decide in 48 or 72 hours on each party's position and then we will make a decision." Trias said that the PPC has supported consideration of a bid, but indicated that it will not give a "yes," and Trias added that if "the PPC maintains this position, the candidacy would be pushed back to 2026" (MUNDO DEPORTIVO, 10/21).
