Media Notes: Ethiopian Football Fans Launch Twitter Campaign To Attract Overseas Players

A World Cup berth "appears unlikely" after Ethiopia's home defeat to Nigeria, but a growing legion of Ethiopian fans "are taking to Twitter to lure overseas-based players eligible to represent the Walyas." Ethiopian fans have now launched what they dub a "Twitter diplomacy" campaign to snap up Arsenal midfielder Zelalem, under "#ZelalemForEthiopia" (REUTERS, 10/18). ... According to Nielsen, Deportes Telemundo's "Titulares Telemundo" was the No. 1 late fringe weekend sports show in Spanish-language TV during its '12-13 season, averaging 391,000 total viewers with a 22% growth season to season. "Titulares Telemundo" beat Unimas' "Contacto Deportivo" with a 35% lead in total viewers and also outperformed cable competitors such as Fox Deportes' "Central Fox Weekend" and ESPN Deportes' "SportsCenter" (Telemundo).
