La Liga Valencia's New Stadium Expected To Be Lucrative For Both Club And City

La Liga side Valencia President Amadeo Salvo "is continuing to meet with AEG and IMG, among other international operators, as he looks to find the capital necessary to continue building" the club's new Mestalla stadium, according to Conrado Valle of AS. Reports "have indicated that the new stadium will increase the team's annual revenue" by €30M-€40M ($41M-$54M) and estimate that the new stadium "will mean an annual economic impact" of more than €100M ($136M) for the city of Valencia. Companies "like AEG or IMG put on 15-20 events of a different nature every year." Valencia's innkeepers guild estimated the impact of the last Copa del Rey final held at Mestalla stadium at €10M ($13.6M), which was "1.5 times what the club itself made." In the "days leading up to the event, hotel occupation was at 98%." Another "example is a study presented by the owners of Seville's La Cartuja stadium," where three concerts -- Alejandro Sanz, AC/DC and U2 -- in '10 had an economic impact of €17.2M. With a new Mestalla stadium, Valencia could bid to host a Champions League final. For this year's Barcelona-Bayern Munich Champions League final in London, the city made €55M ($75M) on "the day of the match alone" (AS, 10/14).
