League Notes: IBF State Units Meet In 'Informal Conclave,' Write To AIBA

More than half of the suspended Indian Boxing Federation’s state units met in an “informal conclave” in New Delhi on Sunday and decided to write to the int'l body, seeking the appointment of an interim committee to run the sport in the country, besides conducting a “free and fair” re-election (PTI, 10/6). ... Cricket SA is "to make a decision" on Friday on the enforcement of a new quota system at provincial cricket level that is "set to see a minimum of two black African players in the starting XI of each team in domestic competitions." It is "not expected to extend to the national team." If passed, the proposal -- tabled at a transformation indaba last month -- "will be implemented in the upcoming season" (SOWETAN LIVE, 10/3). ... F1 is "headed toward a crisis within the next 18 months unless costs are cut significantly." McLaren Team Principal Martin Whitmarsh said that the introduction of V6 turbo engines next year "added even more costs to an already highly expensive sport, and that more needs to be done to ensure the smaller independent teams can survive" (AP, 10/5).
