Researcher Ipsos Report Shows 44% Of Spaniards Opposed Madrid 2020 Bid

In a report based on surveys administered throughout Spain, market research institution Ipsos said that "44% of people in Spain supported the IOC's decision not to choose Madrid as the host of the 2020 Olympics," according to EP. In northern Spain, "64% of citizens indicated they opposed Madrid's candidacy, and this was followed by 53.5% of citizens of the province of Barcelona and 52% of the people of northeast Spain approving the IOC's decision." The most-cited reason by voters "was Spain's poor economic situation" (EP, 10/3).
