    The Int'l Ski Federation (FIS) has appointed current Austrian Ski Federaion (ÖSV) VP HANNES TRINKL "as its new men's World Cup race director for speed events (downhill, Super-G) starting with the '14-15 season" (KURIER, 9/18). ... The Spanish Basketball League (ACB) Assembly, which met Wednesday in Barcelona, approved the firing of ACB Dir General BETO AGUSTÍ and Officiating Dir ALBERTO GARCÍA CHÁPULI, who will be replaced by FELIPE LLAMAZARES. ACB President EDUARDO PORTELA will remain the association's "honorary president for life after his contract expires in April" (AS, 9/18). ... Sri Lanka head coach GRAHAM FORD "has confirmed he will leave his post" when his contract expires in January, despite "being pressed to reconsider by the island nation's cricket authorities." Ford, who was appointed when Australian coach GEOFF MARSH was sacked in January '12, had told Sri Lanka last week that "he did not want to renew his contract because of family commitments but officials asked him to reconsider." His final series with Sri Lanka will be against Pakistan in the UAE in December, when they play three tests, five one-dayers and two Twenty20 games (REUTERS, 9/18). ... Former Netherlands captain RUUD KROL "has agreed on a two-month contract" to coach Tunisia in the African zone World Cup playoffs, the Tunisian football federation said on its website on Thursday. Krol replaces NABIL MAALOUL, who "resigned after Tunisia lost their final group match 2-0 at home to the tiny Cape Verde Islands" on Sept. 7 (REUTERS, 9/18). ... Circuit of The Americas announced that JASON DIAL has joined its exec team in the newly created role of president. Dial previously worked in sports marketing at Procter & Gamble and most recently as CMO of the NFL Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He will report to CEO STEVE SEXTON (COTA).

    Former German int'l and TV pundit MEHMET SCHOLL "has renewed its contract with German public broadcaster ARD for another two years through Euro 2016." ARD Sports Dir AXEL BALKAUSKY said, "Mehmet Scholl is one of Germany's former professional footballers with the highest sympathy rating. With his knowledge, humor and professionalism, he is a great asset for our shows." Scholl has been a pundit for ARD since March '08 (BILD, 9/18). ... Boca Juniors President DANIEL ANGELICI will take a "temporary leave and travel to Europe this week," with club VP OSCAR MOSCARIELLO taking his place during his absence. Moscariello said, "Daniel's cousin is getting married in the next few days in Italy. Daniel will attend the wedding, and from there he will travel to Real Madrid because Boca Juniors wants to install a similar athletic facility. He will only be gone until Oct. 3." Uruguayan Ice Hockey Federation President ERNESTO CAJARAVILLA was murdered Monday night in a shooting at his home at the age of 62 (EFE, 9/17). ... Nevada boxing judge C.J. ROSS "has effectively resigned." Ross told the Nevada State Athletic Commission that "she is stepping down indefinitely." Ross scored Saturday's FLOYD MAYWEATHER JR.-SAÚL ÁLVAREZ fight, which Mayweather won, a draw (L.A. TIMES, 9/17). ... British DJ MARVIN HUMES "has been announced as one of the official ambassadors of golf's Ryder Cup 2014." The Capital DJ "is a huge fan of the sport" and will join actor JAMES NESBITT in support of the European team (CAPITAL FM, 9/17). ... The Russian athletics federation handed down two-year bans to long jumper TATIANA KOTOVA and hammer thrower KIRILL IKONNIKOV on Wednesday "after the pair returned positive doping results." Kotova has seen all her results from Aug. 10, 2005 to Aug. 9, 2007 "declared void" (AFP, 9/18). ... Bharatiya Janata Party Deputy Leader GOPINATH MUNDE "is the latest in the list of politicians to show interest in the administration of Mumbai cricket." A local club on Tuesday sent a letter to the Mumbai Cricket Association stating that "the BJP leader would be its representative at the biennial elections" on Oct. 18. It is not clear if Munde "would be contesting the elections" (MUMBAI MIRROR, 9/18).
