Eurosport To Show Tour De France For Another Six Years Until 2019; DMAX Airs Boxing Bout

Pan-European broadcaster Eurosport "will continue to show the Tour de France cycling race until '19," according to Manuel Nunez Sanchez of QUOTENMETER. The decision to continue its Tour de France coverage "was likely influenced by this year's fantastic ratings." The 2013 Tour de France "was a ratings hit for Eurosport in July." The broadcast attracted an average of 430,000 viewers and had a "fantastic 4.4% share." In the target demographic 14-49, the race was watched by 110,000 viewers and obtained a 3.1% market share. Eurosport's normal ratings are 0.6% and 0.4%, respectively. The new contract between Tour de France organizers Amaury Sport Organisation and the European Broadcasting Union also includes other ASO-organized events. Those include, among others, the one-day races Paris-Tours, Paris-Nice, Paris-Roubaix, Liège-Bastogne-Liège and La Flèche Wallonne (QUOTENMETER, 9/10).

BOXING: QUOTENMETER's Manuel Weis reported German free-to-air TV channel DMAX, which targets a male audience, "will broadcast the boxing bout between WBA/WBC world champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Saúl Álvarez." DMAX "will live broadcast the fight on Sunday morning at 3am from the MGM Grand Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas." In addition, the channel "will show a 30-minute highlight show on Sunday at 11:15pm" (QUOTENMETER, 9/9).
