Police In Indian Premier League Betting Scandal Unable To Find Evidence Against Meiyappan

The Crime Branch Criminal Investigation Department of the Tamil Nadu police investigating the Indian Premier League betting scandal "has found nothing incriminating" against Chennai Super King's Gurunath Meiyappan, according to S. Vijay Kumar of THE HINDU. Meiyappan, son-in-law of Board of Control for Cricket in India President N. Srinivasan, "was summoned and interrogated at the CBCID headquarters" following inputs of his alleged links with some punters. However, investigators "found no material evidence to prove his direct involvement in betting or nexus with punters." The allegation was that Meiyappan, being the team principal of CSK, "had shared the team strategies, pitch conditions and other strategic information with his friend and hotelier Vikram Agarwal" (THE HINDU, 9/10). The PTI reported when asked about media reports on the agency not finding anything incriminating against Meiyappan in the case, Director General of Police Narendra Pal Singh said, "You know, it is not proper to say anything since we are yet to file a charge sheet. It is not proper and I don't have any comment" (PTI, 9/10).
