The English FA "will not take any action" against EPL Tottenham defender KYLE WALKER, who has apologized for inhaling nitrous oxide, commonly known as "laughing gas," on a night out in Sheffield during the close season. Nitrous oxide is not illegal, but it can lead to medical problems and Walker admitted that "he had made a poor judgement" (REUTERS, 9/9). ... The IOC wants LANCE ARMSTRONG "to hand back his Olympic medal." IOC VP THOMAS BACH said that "Armstrong and the U.S. Olympic Committee had been asked to return the bronze medal that the American won at the 2000 Olympics in Sydney." Armstrong "was stripped of his seven Tour de France titles and banned for life from elite sports." The IOC "also stripped him" of his Bronze Medal (AP, 9/9). ... League One side Carlisle United sacked Manager GREG ABBOTT (London INDEPENDENT, 9/9). ... Suspended cricketer AJIT CHANDILA and two others arrested for their alleged involvement in the Indian Premier League spot-fixing scandal were granted bail by a Delhi court which said there were some "missing links" in the prosecution's case. The court granted bail to Rajasthan Royals' player Chandila, ex-Ranji player BABURAO YADAV and alleged bookie DEEPAK KUMAR on a personal bond of Rs 50,000 ($766) "with one surety of like amount each" (PTI, 9/9).
