DFB To Continue With Bid For Euro 2020 Final Despite Istanbul Losing Out On Olympics

Despite Istanbul losing out on the 2020 Summer Games, the German Football Federation (DFB) "will continue with its bid to host the UEFA Euro 2020 final in Munich," according to SPOX. DFB Communications Dir Ralf Köttker said, "We will go ahead with the DFB board's decision to bid on two alternative event packages with Munich as the host city. One option consists of three group stage games and a quarterfinal, the second package consists of both semifinals and the final." The bids "have to be submitted to UEFA by Thursday." The governing body "will announce the 13 host federations and their respective host cities in Sept. '14" (SPOX, 9/8). The AFP reported prior to the IOC's decision to award the 2020 Summer Olympics to Tokyo, the DFB had said that "they would withdraw their bid against Istanbul to host the Euro 2020 final, if the Turkish city was unsuccessful in their Olympic bid" (AFP, 9/8).
