Second Bundesliga club 1860 Munich "reacted to its most recent loss and fired head coach" ALEXANDER SCHMIDT on Saturday. Assistant coach MARKUS VON AHLEN "will take over the team on an interim basis" (SÜDDEUTSCHE ZEITUNG, 8/31). ... The Federation of Uganda FA's has elected MOSES MAGOGO as its new president. Magogo is an "electrical engineer by trade and until recently worked for the African Development Bank" (BBC, 8/31). ... JEAN-CHRISTOPHE ROLLAND has been elected as the new president of the Int'l Rowing Federation (FISA), replacing DENIS OSWALD in the role starting in July. Rolland received 117 of the 179 votes cast by member federations of FISA, defeating JOHN BOULTBEE of Australia and TRICIA SMITH of Canada (AP, 9/2). ... The "Emiratisation of the top levels of UAE rugby continues apace after IAN BREMNER was relieved of his duties" as the CEO of the Rugby Federation. Bremner emailed domestic club chairmen "and existing staff at the federation to thank them for their assistance during his nearly three years in office on Sunday morning." The process for appointing a successor is "likely to be discussed over the coming days, when the tour party of players and officials representing the UAE at the first leg of the Asian Sevens Series returns from Malaysia" (THE NATIONAL, 9/1).
