RTL, Sky Score High Ratings With Their Belgium F1 Grand Prix Broadcasts

German free-to-air TV channel RTL "recorded successful ratings for its broadcast of the Belgium F1 Grand Prix on Sunday," according to Alexander Krei of DWDL. An average of 5.75 million viewers watched the race, which was won by Red Bull driver Sebastian Vettel. The number translated into a market share of 34.9%. In the target demographic 14-49, RTL obtained a 29.3% market share. In addition, German pay-TV channel Sky attracted 400,000 viewers for its coverage from Spa. Sky's broadcast obtained a 2.8% share in the target demographic (DWDL, 8/26).

FIELD HOCKEY: DWDL's Krei also reported German public broadcaster ZDF "attracted a total of 1.33 million viewers for its broadcast of the men's field hockey European championships final between Germany and host Belgium" on Sunday. Germany's 3-1 victory received an overall market share of 8.4% and a 4.6% share in the target demographic. Prior to the field hockey final, ZDF aired a summer biathlon competition, which was watched by 1.09 million viewers. The event obtained shares of 6.6% and 2.7%, respectively (DWDL, 8/26).
