Borussia Dortmund Announces $71M Profit, Highest Ever For Bundesliga Club

Bundesliga club Borussia Dortmund "has generated record revenue" of €305M ($408M) and "record profit during the past fiscal year," according to BILD. The club generated a profit of €53.3M ($71M) during the '11-12 fiscal year. It "is the highest profit of a club in the history of the Bundesliga." Dortmund Managing Dir Hans-Joachim Watzke said, "If you substract player transfers, we still generated €253M ($338M) in revenue, which equals a plus of 35 percent." All in all, the club's revenue increased by €90M ($120M). During the championship season '11-12, Dortmund's revenue was €215M. In comparison, Bayern Munich generated revenue of €373.4M and a profit after taxes of €11.1M during the '11-12 fiscal year. Watzke said, "Borussia Dortmund is currently in a deceisive phase in terms of sustainability. We will never again incur debts for the sake of on-field success" (BILD, 8/22).
