Lagging Copa America Stadium Construction Concerns Former Chilean Football President

Former Chilean Football League (ANFP) President Harold Mayne-Nicholls "appears concerned by the lack of progress in the construction of the Municipal de Concepción Stadium, which will be the site of the 2015 Copa America," according to EMOL. Mayne-Nicholls said that "this should generate more concern and not only at the football level, but also for regional and municipal authorities." Mayne-Nicholls said, "Concepción, Argentina is one of the most important cities in the country, with an upcoming event of a worldwide magnitude. This should not be off to the side, but if the stadium does not meet the demands the city will not be the host." The ANFP insisted that "on Dec. 31 of '14, the stadium should be finished, or at least have very little work remaining." Mayne-Nicholls: "If they want to be the site of the Copa America they will have to invest what is necessary to make the stadium a modern, first-level stronghold" (EMOL, 8/13).
