IOC Member Marisol Casado: Corruption To Impact Madrid Bid Less Than Popular Support

Int'l Triathlon Union President and IOC member Marisol Casado on Wednesday recognized that "of course" Spain's political corruption cases negatively affect Madrid's 2020 Olympic candidacy, according to José Félix Díaz of EL CONFIDENCIAL. Casado, however, said that "what counts the most against Istanbul and Tokyo is the great popular support of the Spanish population, including the unity of the political powers." Casado: "Of course political corruption influences. Everything negative impacts negatively" (EL CONFIDENCIAL, 7/10).

DISCOVERY UNDERGROUND: In Madrid, Celia Perales reported on July 27-28, Madrid will hold a night race to take place in the metro facilities of the Spanish capital. "Discovery Underground" is the event in which 100 participants "will run 10km through the underground subway routes, from Tres Olivos Station to Márquez de Valdavia, with the objective of recording a documentary about the support for the Madrid 2020 Olympic bid." Madrid 2020 Sports Coordinator and Beijing Olympic Medalist Rodrigo Garza said that "the project fits perfectly with Madrid 2020 because the metro is one of the candidacy's strong points" (AS, 7/10).
