Dusseldorf EG Receives German Hockey League License For '13-14 Season

German Hockey League (DEL) side Dusseldorf EG "will again play in Germany's top-flight hockey league during the '13-14 season," according to the FRANKFURTER ALLGEMEINE ZEITUNG. The DEL confirmed that the DEG, together with the other 13 teams, "has received the license for the upcoming season that starts in September." The club "has fought until the end to fulfill the license requirements." The historic hockey team "has gotten into financial trouble over the last several years and finished last season at the bottom of the table." The DEG "wants to turn around its on-ice performance with a slightly improved roster during the upcoming season." DEG Managing Dir Elmar Schmellenkamp said,"We are very happy that the league has issued the license for the upcoming season to our DEG. We all know it wasn't easy this time to fulfill the requirements in the given time period" (FAZ, 7/3).
