Olympic Notes: Russian Olympic Committee Head Says No Problems With Snow

Russian Olympic Committee President Alexander Zhukov said that a snow deficit for the Sochi 2014 Winter Olympic Games "will not happen," a remark to dispel concerns over a possible shortage amid unseasonably warm weather. Zhukov said, "There will be no problems with snow." He added the Olympics would go ahead "in any weather" (XINHUA, 6/29). ... In a reprieve to the suspended Indian Olympic Association, the IOC "has decided to extend the deadline for adopting an amended constitution, the draft of which is currently being reviewed by the world body." IOC "had set a July 15 deadline for the amendment of the IOA constitution so that elections are held" by Sept. 1 to pave the way for lifting the ban on India imposed on Dec. 4 last year (PTI, 6/29). ... Taiwan IOC presidency hopeful Wu Ching-kuo said on Thursday that "the race is not based on ethnicity." Wu said, "The world's most influential sports organization is neutral and detached, and it does not exclude or shut out anyone for his political, regional or even ethnic background, which is in line with the Olympic spirit of fair play" (CNA, 6/29).
