Wimbledon Ticket Prices Skyrocket Following Murray's Victory At Queen's

Andy Murray’s grass-court victory at Queen’s on Sunday "has sent the cost of watching tennis history soaring," according to Mike Dawes of the London DAILY MAIL. Centre Court debenture holders are already "banking on Murray Mania going manic." Fans willing to take a gamble on Murray repeating his heroics of last year to reach the Wimbledon final on July 7 should prepare to part with up to £13,500 ($21,000). That is how much two prime Centre Court seats are currently trading for on Viagogo, the online ticket marketplace. The tickets only come in pairs. The cheapest option is £6,971 ($11,000) for a pair of mid-tier tickets. Since Murray confirmed "his form and fitness with a three-set victory over Croatian Marin Cilic at Queen’s," Viagogo has seen a 237% increase in ticket searches as "fans try to secure a seat to watch history live." Viagogo spokesperson Steve Roest said, "It’s extraordinary to see how much his win at Queens has impacted ticket demand already and confirms that Wimbledon will be much anticipated once again this summer" (DAILY MAIL, 6/17).
