Football Notes: LFP Will Enforce Media Cooperation With Possible Sanctions

Spanish Football League (LFP) President Javier Tebas said Saturday that starting next season, there will be "a regulation about the requirement of cooperation with media before, during and after games to follow the model of the UEFA Champions League, and it will include sanctions for those who fail to meet these regulations." Tebas also addressed possibly eliminating games on Christmas, saying that "it is a subject to analyze and discuss with the players' association, but that it is not a 'priority' because the LFP has to maintain a lot of balance" (EP, 6/8). ... Saturday's game between Argentine First Division rivals Vélez Sarsfield and All Boys at José Amalfitani Stadium in Buenos Aires was suspended after 26 minutes of play. The decision to suspend the game came after fans broke through a security fence and started antagonizing police officers, who responded by lobbing tear gas into the All Boys visitors section. As "a result of the chaos, two police officers and five visiting fans were injured and 10 people were arrested" (CLARIN, 6/8). ... In Spain's national football team's friendly against Haiti in Miami on Saturday, La Roja earned €2.5M ($3.24M), according to an agreement signed with Relevent Sports CEO Charlie Stillitano. The Spanish Football Federation also agreed to donate $1 to Haiti for every fan in attendance to help the country recover from an earthquake in '10. The game's attendance was 36,535 (AS, 6/9). ... Cairo football club Al Zamalek has "written to the Egyptian FA, encouraging them to file a complaint to FIFA" in a bid to bring pressure to overturn new regulations imposed by Sports Minister El-Amri Farouq. Zamalek maintains that "the new rules constitute unacceptable government interference in the sport" (INSIDE WORLD FOOTBALL, 6/7). ... Thousands of Syrian refugees will benefit from a grassroots course organized by FIFA at Yarmouk University in Irbid, Jordan's second-largest city. The five-day program will enable 28 instructors to apply their knowledge over the coming months within the scope of football festivals and workshops for Syrian children (FIFA).
