Germany, U.S. Friendly Scores 26.1% Market Share On ARD; BBL With New Best On Sport1

German public broadcaster ZDF "has obtained top ratings for its broadcast of the international friendly between the German national football team and the U.S.," according to Sidney Schering of QUOTENMETER. A total of 8.81 million viewers tuned in to watch the game from Washington D.C.'s RFK Stadium. Germany's 4-3 loss recorded a 26.1% market share on Sunday evening. In the target age demographic of 14-49, the game, which started at 8:40pm German time, attracted 2.96 million viewers and "reached a fantastic 21.8% share" (QUOTENMETER, 6/3).

HANDBALL CHAMPIONS LEAGUE:
DWDL's Alexander Krei reported pan-European sports broadcaster Eurosport "has received high ratings for its broadcast of the European Handball Federation final between HSV Hamburg and FC Barcelona." A total of 730,000 viewers tuned in to watch Hamburg win the European handball crown on Sunday. The game had a market share of 3%. The peak moment was shortly after 8pm German time when almost 1.2 million viewers watched the broadcast (DWDL, 6/3).

BBL PLAYOFFS: DWDL's Krei also reported German free-to-air TV channel Sport1 "recorded above average ratings for its broadcast of the Basketball Bundesliga (BBL) semifinal match between Bayern Munich and Brose Baskets Bamberg on Sunday." A total of 370,000 viewers tuned in to watch game four. In the target demographic 14-49, Sport1 reached a 2.2% market share. In its key demographic, males from 14-49, Sport1 obtained a 3.2% share, which is a new best for the channel's BBL broadcasts. Bayern's 80-71 victory attracted a peak audience of 500,000 viewers. The best-of-five series is now tied at two games apiece (DWDL, 6/3).
