Event Notes: Rafael Nadal Considering November Exhibition In Chile

Rafael Nadal is considering visiting Chile in late November for an exhibition match. Nadal's agent, Carlos Costa, said, "As we go to South America, I see several possibilities to go to countries close to Argentina. Chile is a neighbor, so it is true that it is very possible that Rafa will go to Chile. It is an option. But he does not want to say this now because we are not sure." Nadal is expected to decide in early July, after Wimbledon (EMOL, 5/29). ... The Hartplatz-Arena in Ulm/Neu-Ulm, Germany "will for the first time play host to the German Davis Cup team when it plays against Brazil from Sept. 13-15." The arena has a capacity of 4,400 (SPORT1, 5/29). ... Taiwan's basketball association said Tuesday that "it has decided not to invite the Philippines" to an int'l tournament in July in the wake of a recent territorial row (AFP, 5/28). ... Real Madrid will face Major League Soccer champion L.A. Galaxy in "one of four opening-round matches" of this summer's inaugural Int'l Champions Cup. AC Milan will play at Valencia to open the eight-team event on July 27, "with the rest of the matches to take place in the U.S." (AP, 5/29). ... Real Madrid now has dates available to "play the prestigious Trofeo Bernabeu game before the start of next season." A loss to Atlético Madrid in the Copa del Rey final and a Champions League elimination at the hands of Borussia Dortmund "has freed up some days in August for the fixture to take place" (FOOTBALL ESPAÑA, 5/29). ... Abu Dhabi will be "an important stopover" of the Volvo Ocean Race from Dec. '14-Jan. '15. The city is bidding to "achieve an aggressive target" and set itself apart as a watersports destination (GULF NEWS, 5/29). ... Portugal was appointed as host of the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup 2015, "beating off competition from Brazil and Russia" (INSIDE WORLD FOOTBALL, 5/29).
